Cinque Terre is ou of this world!
Today we took the train 1.5 hours Down the coast to the 1st of the 5 little coastal towns that make up the Cinque (5) Terre (lands). There is a path that connects them all, but that would be the equivalent of running a marathon. So, we chose to only hike between 2 of the towns and believe me...that was plenty. Shear cliffs, steep stone stairs, switch backs and the most unreal views in the world!! Amy was a little spooked by the narrow path and height, but did awesome! I was in my element, being part mountain goat. We we arrived in montorosso 2 hours later and 5lbs lighter from the workout. I had my swim trunks and goggles and took a nice refreshing swim in the Medeterrainian. Then whe bought several bottles of wine from a very cool guy named Lorenzo who owned a great little store that sold wine, homemade jams and liqueur and he told us where we should eat. Another great dinner down in an old wine cellar room. Caught a late train back to Santa Margerhita and who was waiting for the same train, but Lorenzo. After offering us a cigarette (which we declined), he proceeded to tell us his life story and how bad the current Italian government is, especially for the small businessman. Very interesting & sounds like home. We felt good that we spent a fair amount of money in his store, as he seems to be a very sincere and hard working guy. We dragged ourselves back to the room at 10:00pm and collapsed on the bed. The weather cooperated with only a few showers today. Otherwise, it was beautiful as you will see from the pics. Another amazing day!!
